It doesn’t get more quintessential Sydney than The Boathouse...

Take your pick between their incredibly enviable locations at Palm Beach, Balmoral Beach, Shelly Beach and their newly opened Patonga Beach Hotel on the Central Coast. They also have a charming deli located at Whale Beach, next to Moby Dicks, their awe-inspiring space available for private events. The recipe is very simple; an enticing menu bursting with fresh food and ingredients, effortlessly rustic coastal styling, an array of fresh and colourful flowers and produce, an abundance of crayfish pots, lush greenery and those views of the ocean.
We recently caught up with Pip Goldsmith, one half of the talented duo behind The Boathouse (her husband Andrew is the other half) and got an insight into the inspiration behind the concept and where it all began...
How did The Boathouse begin?
We opened The Boathouse Palm Beach almost ten years ago in 2008. We hoped to create a cafe experience that people loved, offering a relaxed feel, welcoming interiors, and a fresh, quality dining experience.
What inspired the concept?
The Boathouse has evolved from our love of enjoying food and experiencing interesting places to eat and visit. We are constantly inspired by our beautiful natural surroundings especially the beaches.
Where do you draw your inspiration from home?
Living with our two children, I try to make our home feel special but also relaxing and easy to live in, with not only beautiful things in it but really practical things, too. I love colour, I find it happy. I’ve always loved living around colourful things.
One thing you cannot live without at home?
I have a little obsession with throws, everyone thinks I’m a bit mad about them! I have about six on my couch at the moment.
Your original location is in Palm Beach. What makes Palm Beach so special?
You could travel the world but you can’t beat Palm Beach for the amazing views. In all weathers there is always something to look at, yet it is quiet and peaceful…most of the year!
Our limited edition candle, jasmine and lime, available online and also at their homewares store located in Palm Beach, celebrates all that is magical about Sydney and gives you the opportunity to take a little piece of the Boathouse home.
