The gardenia flower is native to the tropical and subtropical climes of Africa, Asia, Madagascar and the Pacific Islands. Named after the 18th Century naturalist Dr. Alexander Garden, these delicate, fragile blooms resemble a wild rose, and although they are notoriously difficult to grow in less than perfect conditions, they are the fragrance of a summer garden party.
